I am a change researcher at heart, passionate about both the science and art of navigating change in organizations and society. In my research, I embrace the philosophy of engaged scholarship which emphasizes collaboration between researchers and practitioners in the research process. I collaborate with organizations for research purposes including large corporations, small and medium-sized firms, or governmental organizations.
In current research projects, we evaluate the effectiveness of change interventions to enhance employee support in field experiments, validate short measures of employees' change experiences, and examine how these predict change outcomes. Additionally, we explore digital innovations to enhance change processes (e.g., change analytics, digital co-creation, and involvement).
I organize my research into three main areas:
Strategy & Change: My first research area focuses on designing transformational change processes. How do change agents approach and design transformation processes? What factors influence the success of different change strategies over time? How can a portfolio of multiple change initiatives be designed and managed?
Leadership & Change: My second research area focuses on how leaders intervene in change processes. How can leaders bring people with heterogeneous attitudes together and engage them constructively in change? I am particularly interested in developing and evaluating change interventions (e.g., dialogical communication, involvement) that help address resistance or enhance support in specific contexts. We also explore the role of new digital technologies such as Generative AI for leading change.
Recipients & Change: My third research area focuses on the psychology of change and how people experience change events. What types of responses to change exist, and how can we measure that? What makes people resist or support change? Understanding how employees respond to change is critical because recipients’ responses can enable, complicate, or even prevent initiatives from reaching fruition.
